SCHOOL BACKGROUND
Haysville West Middle School is one of two middle schools in Unified School
District 261 – Haysville Public Schools in Kansas. With 575 students in grade levels 6-8, the school opened on August 13, 2008.
THE CHALLENGE
HWMS was looking to improve communication and increase parent and community engagement. The school saw challenges in improving attendance at parent-teacher conferences, streamlining transportation processes and ensuring that the entire school community was informed of extra-curricular activities and events. Haysville specifically needed technology that would integrate seamlessly with already employed programs and that could be easily managed by their team.

All teachers have heard it. That, “I didn’t know there was a meeting, my child didn’t tell me” comment and Haysville was no exception. The team needed a way to make sure the whole community was connected on one calendar, while simultaneously allowing teachers, advisors and coaches to manage their micro-communities of students and parents. That’s where embrCAL came in. From Students, to teachers, to parents, to admins, with embrCAL everyone stays organized and shows up when it counts.

THE RESULTS
The Haysville West Middle School mobile application went live on January 20, 2015. Since becoming available for download, feedback from teachers, staff, and parents has been pouring in. The parents find the option of receiving push notifications from teacher channels invaluable. The teacher directory, Look What’s Happening for news and events, the Digital Backpack for electronic notes, athletic channels with maps of event locations, and the calendar have been cited as much appreciated additions by parents and students alike.
